The world needs new ideas

The Catechism in Indonesian, a new District Church in Germany, a new church in Berlin, a new well in Ghana … These are the topics in this week’s review.

New well in Ghana: Illegal mining is taking its toll on the environment in many parts of Ghana. Water bodies that also serve as a source of drinking water have been contaminated with poisonous chemicals, making the water undrinkable. Waterborne diseases are prevalent in many communities where illegal mining persists. One example is Domeabra, a farming community in the Asante Akim District in the Ashanti Region. A sizeable number of the population are New Apostolic Christians. Realising how scarce water is, Apostle George Annom Nortey turned to the mother church in Southern Germany to ask for assistance with a mechanised borehole. His request was granted and the project was awarded to a contractor. The joy of the people was great when the Apostle presented the finished well to the church and the community at Domeabra.

New church building in Germany: Bad Belzig is a city south of Berlin. The ground has just been broken there for a new church, a New Apostolic church. Starting in the second half of 2018, the congregations of Bad Belzig, Brück, and Lehnin will be amalgamated. The building is an investment into the future. “People who build have plans,” Klaus Katens said at the groundbreaking ceremony. He is the responsible Apostle in the region. The new building offers seating for 75 people. The topping out ceremony is scheduled to take place toward the end of the year.

New District Church in Germany: A new District Church is currently being established in Germany. The two Church districts of North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse/Rhineland-Palatinate/Saarland will be amalgamated and renamed “New Apostolic Church Western Germany”. To ensure a smooth transition, District Apostle Rainer Storck will assume the administrative responsibility for the new entity on 1 January 2018. District Apostle Bernd Koberstein, who will retire on 25 February 2018, will continue to see to the spiritual leadership of his current district until his retirement.

The Catechism in Indonesian: The Catechism explains the doctrine of the New Apostolic Church. It was first published in 2012. Currently, the book is available in a number of languages including English, German, French, Spanish, but also in Russian, Suaheli, Korean, and now in Indonesian. This will pave the way for tens of thousands of Indonesian native speakers to better understand our doctrine. An added bonus is that both the long version of the Catechism as well as the Catechism in Questions and Answers come in an online version that can be downloaded.
