Proven a million times over

Divine service broadcasts are part of the Church’s past and its present. Following is this Sunday’s streaming offer.

It was a small revolution decades ago when divine services started to be transmitted by postal cable. At some point, the Church members not only heard the sermon but also saw images. Video transmissions via satellite made this possible. The faithful were now able to celebrate special services together, across congregational and district borders. Eventually, worldwide broadcasts followed, particularly on Pentecost or at the beginning of the year.

Technology is advancing. In the meantime, the New Apostolic Church is using various means of broadcasting its services, including regional television stations, IPTV, and YouTube. This no longer happens only once or twice a year, but every Sunday right now. The streaming offer was expanded significantly on account of COVID 19.

In-person services take precedence over online services

Many Church members say that video services are no substitute for in-person services and the fellowship that goes with it. They miss the atmosphere, they miss their brothers and sisters, and the celebration of Holy Communion. This was also confirmed by Chief Apostle Jean-Luc Schneider last year: “Unforgettable!” he declared after a first divine service following a lockdown.

But for those still facing the ups and downs of pandemic restrictions and who are unable to attend the services in their congregation because of this, video services are a welcome alternative. Praying together, the sermon, musical items, and a blessing can also be experienced during an online service.

Here is this week’s overview of online services.
