Better safe than sorry: in-person services and online services

In some regions, the first in-person services will resume this Sunday. Central online services on YouTube, television, or telephone will, however, continue to be offered.

Last Sunday, Chief Apostle Jean-Luc Schneider celebrated Pentecost in Darmstadt in Germany together with a very small congregation in a big church while hundreds of thousands of people followed the Pentecost service at home via webcast.

Infection-control concepts for in-person services

The pictures from Darmstadt showed that despite a first easing of the stay-at-home restrictions and the ban on physical contact strict directives are still in place: distance and hygiene rules are to contain the virus and protect people’s health. This naturally also applies to people who gather to worship in churches. Mapping out a seating plan, marking the floor to guide worshippers during Holy Communion … Concepts have been put into place in the congregations that conscientiously implement these official regulations.

The District Apostles ask, however, that only those who are healthy and do not belong to a vulnerable and high risk group should attend any of the now resuming divine services. Whether to attend or not is a decision that every member and every minister must make for her- or himself – with caution and common sense.

Video and call-in services will continue

Those who will continue to stay at home for the time being can follow central online services on YouTube, television, or telephone. Members who cannot attend in-person services for the time being will receive Holy Communion at home, in hospital or in residential or nursing homes over the coming weeks—only in those regions of course, where this is at all possible.

Online services are also intended for those who will be travelling in the coming weeks. The District Apostles urgently request that the few seats in the churches be left for the local members.
