On the air for half a year

In mid-March, the first churches begin closing in response to the corona pandemic. The Church responds immediately: from then on, members are able to participate in divine services live-streamed on YouTube.

The New Apostolic Church has already had many decades of experience with the transmission of divine services by telephone and satellite. All around the world, selected church buildings have been equipped with satellite receiving technology for this purpose. For the last 20 years, church services have increasingly been broadcast over the Internet, and often even on television, especially in Africa. In many countries, the regular broadcast of divine services via IPTV portals is also a standard offer for members with long-term illnesses.

Technical equipment, as well as existing broadcast teams and infrastructures, clearly benefitted the Church right from the start of the corona pandemic. It was thus possible to publicly provide and stream central video divine services on all continents within the shortest possible amount of time. This offer has now already been available for half a year in many countries and in many languages. And divine services are still accessible on YouTube every Sunday.

These transmission services are not a substitute for in-person divine services, however. Chief Apostle Jean-Luc Schneider has repeatedly pointed out that in-person divine services hold the highest priority for him. Wherever it is possible, the believers are to gather together to celebrate Holy Communion and enjoy fellowship with one another. If participation is not possible for personal or health reasons, or because the local authorities have issued a ban on assembly, video worship services are the recommended alternative: prayer, sermon, benediction, and absolution are also possible online.
