Service for the departed: salvation is free

God wants all people to be saved; He does not exclude anyone. This applies to both the living and the dead.

On Sunday New Apostolic Christians around the world will celebrate a divine service for the departed. Inner reflection, emotions, memories are the sentiments that carry us through this day. How often does it not happen in this context that human attitudes are transferred into a world that we do not know, that we cannot really begin to even assess, let alone understand. And yet we want to reach it. The New Apostolic teaching says that God’s offer of salvation is addressed to all of mankind—here on earth and in the beyond.

God wants all people to be saved. He invites both the living and the dead to come to Him, without excluding anyone. God offers salvation without the need for any sort of advance payment in return. Jesus Christ is the only human being to have ever earned access to eternal fellowship with God. This is because He remained without sin, fulfilled the will of God in perfect measure, and gave His life as a sacrifice.

For New Apostolic Christians it is clear that thanks to the rebirth with water and Spirit they can look forward to the return of Jesus Christ. Making it possible for all people, both here and in the beyond, to participate in this is an expression of Christian love. “May our prayers serve to help many among the living and the dead to long for salvation and accept it,” the Chief Apostle says.
