How do New Apostolic young people on the island of Java proclaim their faith? And how do our members in Togo celebrate the opening of a new well? With music, dance, and a great deal of enthusiasm.
Music to celebrate a new well
The village of Atti-Apedokoe in Togo and the city of Karlsruhe in Germany are 4,700 kilometres apart. Apostle Herbert Bansbach works in both places. He handed over a new well to the villagers in Togo that could be built thanks to donations from members in Karlsruhe. The drilling of the well had been organized by the Missionswerk Süddeutschland, the charity run by the New Apostolic Church Southern Germany.
In a ceremony after a divine service, the Apostle presented the key of the new well to the village water committee. In his address he mentioned that the closest well had been 30 kilometres away. Because of the distance, many of the villagers went to a nearby pond for their water and developed all kinds of diseases as a result. The villagers celebrated their new well with music and dance. Thanks to their own well, the life of the villagers becomes easier and prevents them from contracting water-borne diseases.
Music to make our faith better known
Sunday, 31 January, 5.30 a.m. The main street in Klaten (Java/Indonesia) is cordoned off for the city’s annual Car Free Day (CFD). As merchants, bikers, and pedestrians take over the otherwise busy street, a group of young people carrying angklungs appear almost out of nowhere and start to sing and play. People are delighted and stop to listen.
The concert by the young people from the district of Surakarta was part of a campaign to profess love for their neighbour. In collaboration with the local branch of the Red Cross, the youth had organized a blood drive that day and were able to interest spectators, as well as our brothers and sisters who had come, to give blood.
Youth conference in Pretoria
The youth of the Pretoria East and Pretoria West districts gathered for their youth conference over the weekend of 29 to 31 January 2016 at a venue outside Cullinan, Pretoria. The theme of the weekend was “Attaining spiritual maturity and victory with Christ”. The programme included music, sports, as well as workshops and presentations. The youth broke up into three tracks to cover the following topics: our New Apostolic identity, navigating the Bible, and preparing for a divine service. The highlight of the weekend was the divine service that was conducted by Apostle Jeremia Joubert on Sunday, 31 January.
