“Speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.” Based loosely on Ephesians 5: 19, religions and various denominations are moving closing together to promote a common cause, and right in there is the New Apostolic Church.
Music as an ambassador of peace
The New Apostolic Church is hosting this year’s interdenominational concert in Luxembourg this coming Sunday, 26 March 2017. It is the eighth concert in series. Not only Christian denominations are participating, but also other religions. “A peaceful society and peace in the world are largely dependent on people from different faiths, cultures, and traditions learning to live together.” This is what it says on the website of the New Apostolic Church in Luxembourg. “Making music together is a magnificent opportunity to get to know each other better and contribute to mutual understanding and peace.”
Interfaith dialogue
“Your kingdom come” was the theme of an ecumenical Bible week that recently took place in the north German city of Wolfenbüttel. The concluding divine service took place in the New Apostolic Church. The congregation’s recorder ensemble joined forces with the ensemble of the local music school to give the divine service a musical touch. About one hundred people stayed after the divine service for some refreshments and to foster interfaith dialogue. The money that was donated will go towards the local hospice association.
Churches extend a joint invitation
“Back to church” is a campaign that will be launched in the Netherlands at the beginning of September 2017. The New Apostolic Church will participate in the “open church” project of the interdenominational campaign Kerkproeverij, initiated by the Protestant and Catholic Church. The preparations are set to begin shortly. A workshop in mid April will focus on the question: “What does it take to be an attractive church?”
Christmas songs in March
Young choristers from the New Apostolic Church in Hanover (Germany) recorded a CD in the Paul-Gerhardt church in Leipzig on the first weekend of March. In October last year, the ensemble took first prize in the German Choir Competition 2016 run by German Classic Radio. The prize was a trip to Leipzig to record a professional CD. Utmost concentration was required from morning to night—a total of twelve titles were recorded, most unaccompanied, some with piano.
