Christians feel a need to intercede for the dead. This coming Sunday, New Apostolic Christians will celebrate the divine service for the departed. The services will be broadcast around the world.

“Jesus Christ is our Lord, He saves us from eternal death.” This is the message of the service this coming Sunday. In his letter to the ministers, Chief Apostle Jean-Luc Schneider says: “In order to be saved, the departed must likewise accept Jesus Christ as their Lord. This also means that they must

  • acknowledge and regret their offences against the will of God.
  • receive in faith the sacraments that Jesus gave His church—which the church also dispenses to both the living and the dead by His commission.
  • learn to forgive and love as He does.”

Life after death has always been a fundamental Christian belief. “New Apostolic Christians intercede in prayer for the departed: they ask the Lord to help those who have gone into the beyond in an unredeemed state,” the Catechism of the New Apostolic Church says. Common prayer is an integral part of this divine service for the departed.
