As a minister he has retired. But retired or not, our annual motto makes no difference here. Thoughts from District Apostle Helper Frank Dzur (Canada).

Our motto for this year, “It’s time to do good,” is based on the Bible text Galatians 6: 9–10. This text is among my favourites, and I have used it many times over my 50 years of being a minister. Often I was asked, “What will you do in retirement?” I could give many answers, but what I hope to do and pray for is that I continue to joyfully follow the direction of this Bible text.

  1. To do good
  2. Not to grow weary
  3. Not to lose heart

We serve the Lord by doing good. Direction is already given in our vision and mission statements, which have become foundational in our lives and in the life of the congregation. We can ask ourselves the following questions every day and call upon the Holy Spirit, who will guide us accordingly.

  1. How can I contribute to making people feel at home in my congregation and contribute to their salvation?
  2.  What must I still do to align my life to the gospel and prepare for the return of Christ?

Much good can be accomplished by reaching out to the people around us, cultivating a warm fellowship and relationship with them, sharing Christ’s love and thereby providing soul care. Our children, youth, seniors, and neighbours are all in need of such care.

At times, we may become weary. However, God has provided a source of renewal in His word and Holy Communion. Our fellowship and active serving keep us motivated and engaged. The surety of God’s promises, the love of Christ, and the glory of our future ensure that we do not lose heart. God has chosen us. He will complete what He has begun in us (Philippians 1: 6) and wants eternal fellowship with us. This remains our wish, prayer, and striving.
