According to the liturgical calendar, we are still in the middle of the Easter season. And two further holidays are coming up: Ascension and Pentecost. A preview of what is coming up in our divine services in May.

A few good ideas, a bit of money, and a hands-on approach—and before long things start rolling: for the individual, for everybody. And sometimes things go a lot quicker and better than hoped for.

The liturgical year is an annual cycle of feasts that focus on Christmas and Easter. The New Apostolic Church also follows the liturgical year. What is this exactly?

“We have already accomplished a great deal,” summarises Rainer Storck, the hosting District Apostle of the International Youth Day (IYD). “We have a rough outline of events and have defined the participant groups.”

What is the essence of angels? The Bible says very little about this. But is this really all that important? “We are interested in what they do, or more precisely, what God does through them,” Chief Apostle Jean-Luc Schneider said, “and how we respond to this.”

The last month in the church year has dawned. Soon the Advent season will begin, and with it the new church year. But before that, New Apostolic divine services will focus on the last things. From 30 May to 2 June 2019 there will be a remake of the European Youth Day—this time with participants from around the world. “I hope to see many young people from all over the world in Düsseldorf on Ascension 2019,” Chief Apostle Jean-Luc Schneider says.

“We can hardly imagine under what horrible circumstances many people have to live!” the Chief Apostle prayed at the beginning of the District Apostles’ conference in Johannesburg in South Africa. Afterwards there was much to discuss and to decide for the District Apostles.

Jesus said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions.” The Chief Apostle explained that this does not mean that there is a single room for every believer or even a huge apartment for that matter. How this promise of Jesus is to be understood was explained by Chief Apostle Jean-Luc Schneider in a divine service on Ascension.

Pentecost occupies a special place in the cycle of religious holidays. Why do we refer to the pouring out of the Holy Spirit as the “birthday of the church of Christ”? The answer follows in the second part of our reflections on Pentecost.
