Sacraments are dispensed, large churches are filled with young people, and donations are able to effect great things—the news pages of the New Apostolic congregations around the world were once again filled with good news that needs to be told.
When the largest church is filled with young people
The largest church building of the New Apostolic Church seats around 4,000 members. On Sunday, 18 February 2024, these seats in Tafelsig, South Africa were filled by the young people from the Apostle district of the Cape Peninsula. District Apostle Peter Lambert served the young people with a Bible text from Matthew 20: 32: “So Jesus stood still and called them, and said, ‘What do you want Me to do for you?’” It was also in this special divine service that he welcomed the newly confirmed members into the ranks of the youth. And after the divine service, he not only took the time for personal conversations, but also for a TikTok video with all in attendance.
A rich harvest in Kanthunkhama
This year the fruits of the harvest in the village of Mpazo near Kanthunkhama, Malawi were not only maize and potatoes, but also included the establishment of savings and loans groups. As early as 2019, the NAK-karitativ aid organisation had begun building an irrigation system in the village with the help of the NACRO aid organisation, which primarily works in Zambia, Malawi, and Zimbabwe. The new system made the irrigation of twelve hectares of land possible. So it was that the small farmers were able to produce a harvest that was twice as large as before and even cultivate more diverse crops. And since the small farmers supported by NAK-karitativ and NACRO had also been trained in financial knowledge, they knew how to invest their excess income, and formed savings and loan groups. This allowed them to earn approximately 1,874,000 Malawian kwacha (over 1,000 US dollars) of interest by the end of last year.
Three days for women
The women in the Bin-Houyé district of Ivory Coast gathered together from 15 to 17 December 2023 under the motto: “Siézü – fanzeü – nazeü”, which means something to the effect of: “Zealous women—resolute and steadfast in Christ”. In and around the Bin-Houyé church, the women organised various activities: together they sang Christian songs, performed theatre and ballet pieces, and spread the gospel by going from door to door to distribute the community magazine. Together with Apostle Zran Firmin, they also enjoyed a divine service together based on a Bible passage from Ezekiel 37: 27, which reads: “My tabernacle also shall be with them; indeed I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” In the service, the Apostle encouraged his sisters in faith to serve and reign with Christ.
Dogs in church?
It was with a lot of barking and wagging of tails that the beneficiaries of a special donation accepted their cheque after a Sunday divine service in January. Whether it was jam, chocolates, or knitwear, anyone who bought anything from the New Apostolic Church stand at the Christmas market in Möhringen, Germany last year also supported the dog team of the German Red Cross. A total of 4,500 euros were raised as a result, and these were presented to the dog team leader after the divine service on 28 January 2024. The latter had not only brought along some human colleagues, but also a number of rescue dogs that search for missing and buried people in emergencies. The volunteers will use the money raised by the church to buy GPS tracking devices for some of these dogs in order to make the missions easier.
Festive moments under a tree
When there is something to celebrate, it is not the place that matters: it was under the shadow of a tree that Apostle Reinaldo Milczuk dispensed the sacrament of Holy Sealing upon a number of individuals on 11 February 2024. A large tree served as the backdrop for these special moments in Açaiteua, Brazil.
