Constructing and maintaining buildings, supporting children and youth, training functionaries—the NAK-Diakonia Foundation looks back on a successful year 2023—as is clear from its recently published annual report.

Before the Pentecost service, which was broadcast throughout Europe, some congregations in Switzerland and southern Germany had the opportunity to get to know the leaders of the international Church a little better during the midweek service. Here is a small sample of the many encounters.

Hairdryers are doing overtime, hammers are banging away, and heads are spinning: the church building in Parkwood in South Africa has been converted into a skills development centre for disadvantaged young people. And they learn far more than technical skills there.

It’s official: the building of the New Apostolic Church in Eppendorf is one of the most remarkable buildings in Hamburg, Germany. It has lots of stories to tell, for example, about the new organ, the moving altar, or the little piece of their church that people can carry around.

Over the next few days, the focus of the New Apostolic world will be on Cape Town in South Africa. The Chief Apostle and the District Apostles have gathered in the city for the International District Apostles’ Meeting. They will conduct divine services, attend a concert in Silvertown, and celebrate the birthday of the church on Pentecost.

The building can already be identified as a place of worship from the sky: a huge emblem is cast into the roof of the Tafelsig church building. But that is by no means the only unique feature of the congregation which will host the 2023 international Pentecost service.

The name Magney is well-known in New Apostolic circles in Germany: there were two Apostles with that name. The younger of the two was confirmed by the older one some eighty years ago. And the older Magney died in a bombing raid eighty years ago today. Today we pay tribute to a pioneer.

Many people are committed to good causes. In South Africa, for example, a special service was held to bring comfort to refugees. In Germany, brothers and sisters sacrificed some of their free time for the environment. And in the Netherlands a church building was made available in support of democracy.
