Part of our congregational and church life has moved online because of COVID-19. Here is a look at some of the means used and what online offers are available this coming Sunday in terms of divine services.

Meetings

Apostles and Bishops are coming together in video conferences and so are ministers at the congregational and district level. Travel time has been noticeably reduced thanks to online meetings, and cross-border exchanges are also easily possible. Examples from Germany, Angola, Portugal, Lithuania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo prove this.

Religious education

In many congregations, young Christians are having online lessons: Sunday School classes are being held via YouTube or video conferences, while religious instruction and confirmation classes are done by video chat.

Music

There are numerous virtual choirs at the regional level, but also across national borders. There are online choir rehearsals as well as many small and big music projects which people are putting their hearts into. With over 1,600 participants from around the world, the International Virtual Choir, for example, gave a touching finale at the Pentecost service.

Divine services

There will also be a wide selection of online services again this coming Sunday: 29 live streams on five continents in 16 languages spread over various time zones. With the start of the pandemic, excuses such as “It’s too far away” or “It’s not the right time” have become outdated.

Sunday is the day dedicated to the worship of God. It is and remains the day of rest for the soul prescribed by God. In-person and online service offers of the Churches make this possible, and everyone can hear God’s word and receive blessing.
