The COVID-19 pandemic brought a great deal of suffering to many people. On the other hand, NAK-Humanitas, the non-profit foundation of the New Apostolic Church Switzerland, managed to do some good. The recently published 2021 annual report not only provides numbers, but also gives some insight into the moments of happiness behind them.

Learning in Sunday School or Religious Instruction—children are quite familiar with that from Church. But it is something quite special when the Church also makes it possible for students to learn math and do sports through the week. Would people cut back on donations during the pandemic? This was the anxious question that confronted the New Apostolic relief agency NAK-karitativ in 2020, the year when COVID-19 first reared its head. Riding together over a distance of more than 8,000 kilometres—and at nearly 90,000 metres above sea level: Werner, Karsten, Paul, and Caspar Kühnle committed to this struggle for a good cause. Whether young people do something for the congregation or something is done for them, they are important because they are the future of the Church.

Individuals, congregations, and charities… The solidarity with Ukraine is huge also among New Apostolic Christians. Already a few days after the war broke out, people were at the border to help.

They are back… the pictures of refugees desperately seeking a safe place. We saw similar images already back in 2015. Elena Kloppmann saw them too and could not get the pictures out of her head. That was when she decided that she wanted to help. Today she is helping in the Mediterranean.

The New Apostolic Church, its members, as well as some of its institutions have big plans for this year. These include developing instrumental music, building a modern church, and conducting seminars for ministers.

New Apostolic Christians have reacted with solidarity and compassion to the war in Ukraine. All European District Apostles are calling for prayers for the casualties and for peace. Meanwhile, the relief organisations are preparing to provide aid.

“We have realised that there is no end in sight to this calamity.” This is how the charity of the New Apostolic Church in the Philippines describes the situation after Typhoon Odette devastated parts of the country. Among the many NGOs that have responded are also four New Apostolic charities.

Dogs in the church or motorcycles in the Philippines—sometimes help comes in unexpected ways. Over the last few months, natural disasters and explosions were the top stories in world news. What didn’t make the headlines was the good news, namely the help that came.
