At home around the world – Helping in big and little ways

Helping others is charity in action, something that brothers and sisters around the world do all the time—whether in big or small ways, collectively or individually. Following are three current examples.

Philippines: Aid for victims of Typhoon Lando

Another typhoon has hit the Philippines. Typhoon Koppu, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Lando, struck the northern part of the country in mid October. Heavy rains and the resulting flooding destroyed agriculture and much of the infrastructure. NACSEA Relief, the aid organization of the New Apostolic Church South East Asia has organized aid for about 233 families in the regions of Nueva Ecija, Isabela, Cagayan, Ilocos, and Pangasinan. Further aid is planned—with support from sponsors such as NAK-Humanitas.

Nepal: Help for earthquake victims

NAK-Humanitas, the aid organization affiliated with the New Apostolic Church Switzerland, also supports other projects. Recently, about 25,000 US dollars were donated to the Swiss Red Cross to support earthquake victims in Nepal. Two field hospitals run by the Red Cross in the districts of Sindhupalchok and Dolakha provide the population with basic health care. When the earthquakes struck, the field hospitals were damaged, leaving them in a bad state of repair. The main focus of the Red Cross in the region continues to be the distribution of aid. They are now concentrating their efforts in remote rural areas.

Germany: Money for refugees

Brothers and sisters from the District Church of Berlin-Brandenburg in Germany have pooled their resources to help refugees in Germany. District Apostle Wolfgang Nadolny had announced that the greater part of the 2015 thank-offering would go toward projects in aid of refugees. This induced the members in his district to donate the equivalent of 515,000 US dollars, nearly a fifth more than last year. The District Apostle expressed his thanks in a circular: “I am very happy that you have let yourselves be motivated and have taken up this idea to help refugees.”
