Social media and its proper use
A tough question right out of the cement mixer: Is the Chief Apostle against social media? No, it is a great thing, he says. The danger lies in usage. His keywords: virtual world, ego, dumbing down, injury.
Sunday afternoon in Frankfurt (Germany). At the Day of the Youth of the New Apostolic Church Hesse/Rhineland-Palatinate/Saarland in June 2017, Chief Apostle Jean-Luc Schneider took questions from the youth. The questions had previously been collected and were drawn at random from a kind of lottery wheel, in this case a cement mixer, true to the day’s motto: “I build with you”.
Question number three was intended to sound out the Chief Apostle’s opinion regarding social media. Actually, a wonderful thing, was his answer. “It all comes down to usage,” he said, and mentioned four dangers:
- building a virtual world,
- overrating one’s ego,
- erosion of values, and
- violation of human dignity.
In the video, the Chief Apostle cites good reasons for his warnings. He urges the youth: “Please be careful!”
